(Waukegan, IL) The Lake County area saw its first major snowfall of the winter, but in terms of what was forecast, it was a dud. The National Weather Service had been predicting the weekend storm for several days, and estimated that much of the region would see anywhere from 6-10 inches, with higher amounts possible near the Lake. While the higher amounts did take place along Lake Michigan, snowfall totals fell below even the low end of the forecast, with Waukegan seeing the most at 5.5 inches. Other areas like Hawthorn Woods saw just over 3 inches, while the Gurnee area saw about 2.5 inches.
