(Wauconda, IL) A weekend incident left a Wauconda Police Officer and his K-9 partner injured…and a man behind bars. Wauconda Police say in the early morning hours of Sunday, an officer noticed a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction along Route 12. An attempt to pull the vehicle over was unsuccessful. The officer, seeing other vehicles approaching the wrong-way driver, then put himself in harm’s way, causing the suspect to hit his vehicle head-on. Anthony Smith was taken into custody after the crash, and hit with several charges including aggravated DUI (4th offense), criminal damage to state supported property and more. The officer suffered minor injuries, while his K9 partner was evaluated. A bond amount for the 46-year-old suspect has not been released.
