(Waukegan, IL) An Evanston man is on his way to prison, for a robbery attempt that left another suspect dead. Michael Zachery was charged after an October 2018 incident in which he and 34-year-old Joseph McHaney of Chicago attempted to rob a Lindenhurst man. The man shot at the suspects, fatally wounding McHaney. Zachery was originally charged with murder in the case, but pleaded guilty to armed robbery charges…getting that murder charge dropped. The now 27-year-old was sentenced this week to 6-years in prison…though (according to court records) he was given 999 days credit for time already served.
