Man Allegedly Involved in Fort Sheridan Death, Arrested for Lake Forest Arson

(Waukegan, IL)  A Highland Park man already facing weapons charges, is now facing arson charges. Nicholas Caban was arrested for illegally possessing a handgun after he was reportedly involved in a violent mid-September confrontation that left Matthew Ascaridis dead near Fort Sheridan. Authorities say the gun was not used in the incident. Caban was then arrested while out on bond after an October 7th arson fire in Lake Forest…he was hit with possession of alcohol by a minor, but no bond violation was filed. Lake Forest Police and prosecutors then finished their investigation of the fire and charged the 20-year-old with arson…he was taken into custody Monday. Bond has been set at 1.2-million-dollars, with a court date Wednesday. Caban is not facing any charges at this point, in connection with the Fort Sheridan death.
