(Springfield, IL) An Illinois committee has shot down an attempt by Governor JB Pritzker to reissue a school mask mandate. A downstate judge issued a restraining order on the original mandate that requires all students and staff to have face coverings in school…something the Governor appealed. In the meantime, the Illinois Department of Public Health attempted to reissue the rules, but were cut off at the pass by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules of the Illinois General Assembly. The body voted 9-0 (with two voting present) to block the attempt…the 9 votes against included 3 Democrats. The JCAR ruling prevents the Governor from issuing another school masking mandate, though the original appeal process is ongoing.
