Grayslake District 46 Teachers Hit the Picket Lines

(Grayslake, IL) Teachers and support staff in Grayslake District 46 hit the picket lines yesterday (Thursday). The teacher’s union and school board are negotiating over the final two years of a four year deal, with salaries as the main sticking point. A negotiation session was scheduled for last night, but no updates on that have been provided…today was a teacher’s institute day, and a scheduled day off for students.

Island Lake Teen Still Missing

(Island Lake, IL) An Island Lake teen that went missing last Saturday remains missing. Abe Gonzalez was last seen leaving a party in Wauconda in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday. Lake County Sheriff’s officials say it’s believed that the 17-year-old was intoxicated, and that his cell phone’s battery had died at the party. Ground and water searches have turned up nothing significant so far. Anyone with more information is being encouraged to contact Sheriff’s officials.

Former Lake Forest City Manager Pleads Not Guilty in Lobbying Scheme

(Waukegan, IL) A former Lake Forest city manager has pleaded not guilty in connection with payments to a lobbying firm. Robert Kiely is facing one count of official misconduct after being indicted last month by a Lake County Grand Jury. Prosecutors allege that Kiley made lobbying payments without the approval of the city council, which was reportedly required. A special investigation by Lake Forest officials found that some 200-thousand-dollars was paid to the firm using city funds. Kiley claims the case has no merit…he will be back in court in the new year.

Wednesday Night Round Lake Fire Kills Pets, Leave Home Uninhabitable

(Round Lake Park, IL) A late night fire in Round Lake Park left a home destroyed, and several house pets dead. The incident took place on Wednesday night in the 2-hundred block of Clifton Drive. Firefighters had the blaze under control quickly, but didn’t leave the scene until the early hours of Thursday morning. The fire left some 80-thousand-dollars in damages and rendered the home uninhabitable. The flames also killed two cats and a dog, but another dog was rescued. There were no human injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
