(Waukegan, IL) A woman accused of helping her then police officer husband embezzle money from a youth policing program, has pleaded guilty. Melodie Gliniewicz entered the plea on one count of deceptive practices, avoiding a trial that was set to begin this week, and getting several more serious charges dropped in exchange. Gliniewicz’s husband, a former Fox Lake Police officer, staged his suicide back in 2015 as evidence of his financial misdeeds came to light. Melodie Gliniewicz will be sentenced in April, and while the charge could bring up to three years of prison time, prosecutors say they will likely push for probation.
