(Waukegan, IL) Two Lake County plants that sparked the fight over ethylene oxide, are now putting out less of the substance into the air. The EPA says new controls put on Vantage Specialty Chemicals in Gurnee and Medline Industries in Waukegan, have led to a significant drop of EtO in the air. The report says the plants now put out less of the cancer-causing substance, and levels are considered well below what is permitted. Even so, each plant must continue with several restrictive monitoring and reporting procedures.
