(Springfield, IL)  Several Illinois Republicans have called for investigations into the state’s Department of Children and Family Services. The calls came after the recent murders of a 6-year-old North Chicago boy and a 5-year-old Crystal Lake boy, the murder of a case worker south of Springfield, and a recent contempt citation issued against DCFS Director Marc Smith for failing to move children to appropriate placements. Officials calling for the hearings say deep looks into the department have shown how broken it is, and that it’s not something that can be fixed by simply throwing more money at the problem.
