P.M
P.M. came to Save-A-Pet as a kitten with his littermate (A.M.) and has been at the shelter ever since, and now here he is 4 years later, still waiting for a family. He is in a special area for cats with a special diet, which is why he often gets overlooked. PM is a friendly guy and will follow you around meowing for attention. He is particularly fond of one of the cat staff members. Whenever she goes into the W/D area, he jumps up, starts meowing, and runs over to his favorite cat tree so he can be at the perfect height for petting, even running to the door and meowing when she tries to leave.! An incredibly loyal and loving guy, PM also gets along great with the other cats. He is pretty low key, and would be a great lap cat to relax with once he gets to know you!
Francesca
Our poor Francesca got off to a rough start in life and has really never recovered. Someone had her as a little puppy and when she was not even out of puppyhood yet, decided they couldn't deal with her and dumped her at a large municipal animal control. A couple then quickly came to adopt her from there, but soon found out that she had already developed some issues that needed work, and they weren't willing to put in the time to do the training. So now she is with us, back in a kennel, wondering if she will ever find a permanent home to teach her what trust is all about. Francesca needs someone who is willing to give her time to trust and to train her with kindness and gentleness. She is an absolutely beautiful young girl

Half Pint
We received a desperate call from the Director of Chicago Animal Control wanting help. They were overwhelmed with animals and needed other rescues to jump in and help so lives would not have to be lost unnecessarily. So to Chicago we went and before long, Half Pint was driving back to Save-A-Pet with us! He definitely enjoys attention, and will come out in search of it. He loves being petted and loves to play, but does not always know how to play appropriately, almost like a cat who has never grown out of kittenhood. He nips and bites when he plays, and doesn't mean to hurt anyone, but he doesn't seem to know his strength! We would probably recommend older children only, or a house with no kids since he doesn't always know his boundaries. He is VERY playful, and VERY outgoing, but probably needs to learn a few manners! Nothing better than a sassy cat!!
Bigger Tigger
Bigger Tigger also came from Animal Control on the same trip as Half Pint. Everyone who sees him comments about how gorgeous he is! We can only guess what mix of breeds are in him...we call that a Heinz 57! We don't know much about his background but we are quickly learning about him here at the shelter. He loves attention from everyone and we are guessing he has never had a family to love before. He seems interested in dogs so we would slowly introduce him to any interested canine (or feline!) siblings! . He is just starting out his life as he is only approximately between 1-2 years old and he would be deeply grateful to whoever chooses him as their next companion.

Frankie
We wanted to not only show off how great Frankie is with everyone, but we also wanted to show off our awesome Kids Care group. These dedicated, animal-loving kids come every single Saturday to exercise and play with our dogs! Frankie appreciates them very much and many would be surprised to see Frankie sitting with all these kids. When he first came in, he was being yanked around by a painful training collar. This made him lose trust in people and he would growl at everyone he met. Eventually we all showed him that humans can be kind and gentle and that there is never a need to hurt or scare dogs into behaving. Now Frankie loves everyone, people and dogs alike! He would be a great addition to any home. He is very young and is super intelligent so he will learn quickly, as long as you teach him with kindness!
Mary Kay
Mary Kay is 3 years old, and has been in the shelter pretty much her entire life. Everyone (staff and volunteers) is completely baffled as to why she has been there for so long! She is very playful, affectionate,LOVES sitting in laps, and will not wait for an invitation. If she sees an open lap, she will come running and crash into it! She definitely knows her name too as she will come from across the catroom and jump into your lap if you call her. Mary Kay is also very talkative, and will have "conversations" with you through meows. She will also sometimes run around the room, and play chase with some of the other cats, so she gets along pretty well with her roommates here too. Come and meet this ultimate "lap kitty"...You may be just the one to be her very first family!

Waxy and Waya
This 4 year-old brother/sister pair were adopted out as kittens a few years ago. When a death in the family brought a new person into Waxy and Waya's life, an allergy emerged and back they went to the shelter. Waxy is mostly blind but that doesn't stop him from seeking out some major loving. He can navigate his way up and down a cat tree to get from the tops of condos to the floor and will carry toys around in his mouth. When he hears you walking up to him, he stands up, walks to the edge of a condo, reaches out, and then climbs onto your shoulders once you are close enough because he loves to be held.
Waya is equally loving and will roll around the floor meowing, trying to get someone's attention to scratch her! Here is a video of her doing just that!
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=546165418477&ref=mf
They both LOVE sleeping underneath pillows... which is great until another cat doesn't realize they are there and lays on top of them :) These wonderful cats are extremely bonded and need to go home together.
Jr. Mack, Estelle and Esther
We wanted you to see what we saw so someone snapped a picture as soon as we found them. Outside the shelter early one morning a medium-size carrier was left with these guys all cramped inside. Jr. Mack is a 3 year-old (estimated) American Staffordshire Terrier or Mastiff mix and Estelle and Esther are estimated 7 year-old poodles. The only thing that was left was a note saying the big dog's name is Junior and please don't kill him. These three are extremely attached to each other. Some of the kennel staff have said that they have never seen dogs get along so well and that they willingly share everything! Ideally we would like to keep all three of them together. They are all extremely sweet with everyone they meet!

Molly and Bradford
Ahooooo! If you love the sound of that, you will love these 2 beagles babies! They have stuck together through thick and through thin. They ride well in the car (love to stick their heads out the car window) and have visited local nursing homes, bringing joy to all the residents there. Poor Bradford has just been diagnosed with renal failure, which is terminal. We're not sure how many months he may have, but he needs to spend it in a loving home and with Molly. Those two things would have made life worth living for him. Please consider adopting these two seniors to show them that there is no other way to go but life inside a home with a family who loves you.Molly and Bradford would like to add that in no way did they condone the sporting of the silly costumes they are wearing and hope to never reach such a low level of dignity again!
Poobah
We know, we know...sounds like a Teletubby, right? Well, Poohbah is just as loving and fun as one! He is truly an absolutely stunning cat. Since he was a little overwhelmed when he came to us, we put him in a quieter, smaller room to adjust. We think he has adjusted now, as he often scales the screen door or that room to check out what's going on in the big cat room. We think it's just his ploy to bring attention to himself when potential adopters are walking by! He is 6 years old, loves to be petted and carried around! He would be an amazing addition to any family!

Nikita
Our gorgeous, regal girl, has waited for just the right home for many years. Nikita has been adopted twice and returned. When will people learn that you can't make a husky a golden retriever? We encourage everyone to educate themselves about the breed they are about to adopt as it is crucial to the success of everyone involved. Nikita can be quite the funny girl! She loves to come over and poke you with her long nose to get you to play or pet her. She loves to be outside and run in the fenced in fields. Poor Nikita just lost her best husky friend Nanook to cancer. Now she is looking for someone to play with: human or dog (or maybe even both!)
She would be best in an adult only household with someone who has plenty of opportunities to take her outside and who doesn't mind a lot of hair flying around the house!

llse
Ilse is almost 3 years old and lost her special friend Enya, who passed away about a year ago when she wasn't even 2 years old. They were from the same hoarder house as Furbie and Dorathee who were featured last week. Ilse was quite scared when she first came to the shelter. Even though she was used to being with a lot (over 80!) of cats, the change of environment was stressful for her, since the hoarder house was all she knew. She is doing much better nowadays and is super sweet. She loves attention, but can be a little weary of new people, since she is used to being around mostly cats. Once she gets to know you, she follows you everywhere and climbs all over you. She would love to go to a house with another cat and with someone who is going to give her a little time to adjust. In just a short time she will know she is in a good place and will devote all her love to you!
Mr. Grumpy
Puppies! (Pictured is Mr. Grumpy)
Riddle of the day: What do you get when you have unspayed/neutered dogs living in the same household?
Answer: 13 puppies that no one was prepared to care for!
This is how this adorable puppy, with his mom and 12 littermates ended up at Save-A-Pet. They were born on Easter and raised in one of our very best foster homes. While they have their individual personalities, they are all turning out to be sweet, loving and smart. Their foster mom has already been working on potty-training too! They are looking for families who have the time and energy to raise a puppy and will continue their training in a kind, gentle manner. These pups are at Save-A-Pet during the day and go to their foster home at night, so come by the shelter and visit them anytime we are open! Who knows? Maybe you will end up adding a little member to your family!
Clearwater Beach
Clearwater was brought in as a teeny tiny kitten at just a few weeks old. He was adopted pretty quickly but then returned as an adult cat because someone in the household developed allergies. They had nothing but wonderful things to say about him and so do we! He is a big, 4 year-old lovebug. As you can see in the picture, he even loves his stuffed ducky! The big cat room with hundreds of cats is a little overwhelming to him so he can sometimes get cranky with the other cats if they crowd his space. He loves kids and one time he even tried to hitch a ride out of the cat room in a toddler's stroller! Please come and ask to meet him...everyone knows who Clearwater is and where to find him hanging out...the kitchen!
Will, aka Ami
A lot to love…and I am not just talking about my size, tipping the scale at over 90 lbs. After all, I am believed to be a Great Pyrenees/lab mix so and I’m told that I am cuter than little foo-foo dogs! I am just a big teddy bear, very affectionate and completely devoted to people – I am always ready and immediately stop whatever I am doing if someone starts paying attention to me and is ready to give me some loving, a nice belly rub or of course a treat.
I was originally found as a stray and ended up at a rural Illinois shelter. I was lucky to be saved in the last minute by Save-A-Pet and was then quickly adopted. After having spent about a year and a half in a home, I was brought back because I was said not be completely housebroken (I do keep a clean kennel here) and was also diagnosed last summer with epilepsy, which is under control with medication. It’s been somewhat tough as I was accustomed to sleeping in the bedroom with my family. They commented that I am a gentle, easy-going and loving guy. I prefer smaller dogs and have no experience with small kids. I do, however, great with teenagers and love to play with them. I know sit and down and walk well on leash. I also enjoy car rides. Interested in love in a big package, come and meet me!
He is about three years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.
They are both ready to start having fun and being loved this week so make sure to come and visit them. Don’t forget all their many friends atwww.saveapetil.org all waiting too!
Week of July 4, 2010
I am an awesome, sweet girl who had pretty much given up on life even though everyone here at Save-A-Pet was trying their best to lift my spirit. I was losing weight, depressed, and had no interest in anything. Something, or maybe someone, was missing from my life. Lucky for me, Save-A-Pet never gives up. When my former friend and soul mate, Jazzman the dog, came in, they decided to have us meet again.
We immediately fell into each other's paws, purring, barking, just overjoyed at being reunited. Life was starting to smile again and we were even more grateful when they allowed us to share an office together. This way we'd never be apart again. Such a bond could not be broken by time or distance...
Sadly I lost my friend Jazz over Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers and staff have been so kind not only to comfort me in the loss of my best friend, but also to allow me to spend Jazz's final moments with him. We were so close and so bonded that at times I feel lost without him and wish nothing more than to have him back. However, there is always the solace that he is still with me in spirit, looking over me like an angel and a beacon of light to guide a wonderful, loving family into my life where I can find my forever home.
I love the company of other cats, dogs and would also do well with kids. I especially enjoy 'helping' people on their computers (more like waiting until you are on a computer to ask for attention). I promise I will give you a lifetime of love in honor of the eternal gratefulness of my friend who is looking over me.
She is about 3 ½ years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, tested negative for Feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.
Rocksie
Ironically little 3 year-old Rocksie happen to be in the right place at the right time. I had just arrived at a local Animal Control to pick up some dogs to bring to Save-A-Pet. As I was standing there waiting I noticed a couple of women with a little white Jack Russell sitting on the side where people go to relinquish dogs. What caught my eye was how terrified this little dog was and also how the dog was being treated. She was so scared she was shaking and hiding under a bench and behind the legs of her owner, while her owner totally ignored her except when she had to move and dragged little Roxie behind her. I could sense her fear and knowledge that something bad was about to happen to her. It was tearing my heart out. I asked the person who was helping me what the chances were that I could take this little girl . She saw the look on my face and heard the emotion in my voice (and probably saw the tears in my eyes) and said, "every chance". I picked her up in my arms and told her she was going to be okay. She was shaking terribly and looked at me, listening to my voice. I kept telling her I loved her and I promised I would make sure she was okay. They know. She stopped shaking and leaned up and gave me little kisses. She has been happy at the shelter and loves visiting people and going to our off-site adoption events. She would make a great companion for anyone!
She is about 3 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped
Stella Rose
So many times people don't believe the stories we tell of things that happen to our animals before they get to Save-A-Pet. This is one of those stories. I thought it important to share so that people can see that these animals are survivors and we really have no idea what they go through or what they are capable of handling. They have so much to teach us. Stella is one of those "survivors'. She is only a kitten right now, about 9 months old but has already experienced more than we hope any animal has to experience. She was one of four cats that someone witnessed being thrown out of a moving car. They didn't stop and let them out. They were driving and discarded these cats like they were trash. She was rescued but the other three were never found. The rescuer brought her to one of vets we use where she checked out ok. The vet then continued to save this little girl by contacting SAP. They offered to help us in anyway they could and we took her in. She is pretty mellow for a kitten. She is a favorite, with staff, in the kitten room. She loves to curl up in your arms. While trying to take her picture I had a tough time because she kept curling up and cuddling in the crook of Ashley's arm. ....or in the blanket that completely covered Ashley while she stood there as my "backdrop". It makes you wonder what if that one wonderful rescuer had not seen what happened in that split second where some horrible person actually threw kittens out of a moving vehicle. Stella is one of the lucky ones. And I always think they know they are special and loved. She sure does seem to show it in her love and affection for people.
She is about a year old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.
Please remember - give the gift of love to a homeless animal, consider adoption!…and don’t forget to check our website at www.saveapetil.org for many more cats and dogs, all ages and personalities, just waiting to love you for the rest of their life.

Ted
Just hiss at me, I don’t take it personally. Even the occasional growl won’t trigger a hot button. I’m a solid guy that’s not into body building or flexing my muscles. I just love everyone – I could easily be a cat from the 60’s. As soon as someone sits down, I am all over that person yet more than happy to share all the attention and space with one, even two cats. I hug you and give you head-butts while purring softly the whole time. I was abandoned with another cat that people think might be my brother. When I first came in, I looked rather beat up, with scabs and missing fur so possibly people got tired of me and left me outside – I wish I could tell you my whole story. But one thing people are sure of is that I am just a total lover and I am so gentle that I might even do well with kids.
He is about two years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots and rabies, tested negative for feline leukemia, and microchipped. He is a healthy FIV positive big guy!
This summer, give the gift of love to a homeless animal, adopt one or even two!…and don’t forget to check our website at www.saveapetil.org for many more cats and dogs, all ages and personalities, just waiting to love you for the rest of their life.
Puppy Maxx
Here I am, as ready as can be for my new life! After spending years at another shelter, I was lucky that Save-A-Pet took me because this is finally giving me a chance to find my own family. I am a handsome guy that had some training years ago but would probably welcome a bit of a refresher – treats always help. I walk well on leash and when I am outside, that’s one of my favorite things to do, walking around and sniffing everything. I am, as of now as this can always change, not too interested in toys. With no hesitation, I can say that I love to get brushed, the closest second are butt scratches that will have me do the hoola hoop! I am an affectionate fellow that would probably prefer to be your only dog. I am a neat and clean boy and love treats and chewies!

Skyler
I’ve lived most of my life in a crate in a dark basement. Even after all this, I am still excited and happy when I get to spend time with people. Needless to say that I have quickly become a favorite among staff and volunteers here. First order of business when we are outside is for me to plop myself in your lap – don’t worry I always manage to fit in somehow! After our snuggling time, I am more than ready to have some fun with you, running around and just being silly. I still always make sure to take plenty of breaks, just to get more loving. After all, I have many years to make up for and I’m quite the generous type with kisses too! I haven’t really been tested with other dogs, but some of them that come by I seem to like. I hope my new family will have a nice yard for me and maybe even a couple of teenagers that wouldn’t mind sharing their bed with me!
He is about nine years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.
Ready to have some fun, then come and meet them and all their friends or check them out at www.saveapetil.org
Izzie
Don’t try to sneak up on me! I am deaf , so please approach me slowly so I can see you before you start petting me. To say that I am stressed here doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel. Always on alert, watching shadows moving around, feeling trepidations, this is all so exhausting. I try to avoid the limelight as much as possible even though some of my friends here think that I have the total Hollywood glamour look: white fur with blue eyes. I’d gladly skip all the paparazzi and flashing cameras for a quiet home, with of course no kids, just so I can finally relax again. Since being back here, I tend to hang out on top of one of the cat trees, this way I can keep an eye on everything. I can be quite playful when things calm down and my prior family said that I loved empty boxes to play around. She also mentioned that I am afraid of other cats so would do better as an only cat and that, once I got comfortable in my home, I was very affectionate and loved being petted on the head.
She is about 8 years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.

Cici
My original family got me when I was a little puppy from someone that didn’t know or didn’t care too much about pet overpopulation. For the first year, I really enjoyed home life and all the small kids. However, after a year spent as a house pet, I got relegated to the yard, where I spent the next few years, just giving birth to puppies, away from people’s sight and love. After one more litter and my family getting a divorce, they decided that it was time to let me go. Lucky me, I landed at Save-A-Pet where I quickly went on to find a home for the next 6 years.
I am pretty devastated at finding myself back here when my family moved and couldn’t take me with them. I lived with small kids even with babies and was said to be good with them. I prefer dogs that are smaller in size but really all I want is people’s attention. I am an overall well-mannered lady that knows sit and down and give paw too. My family described me as gentle, obedient and attentive. I’m sensitive and loving and am ready to make you the center of my world. Please make me feel loved again!
She is about 11 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.
Alaskan
I just love to be held! People tell me I’m good with strangers, children, and other cats. I can be a little shy at first and I may hide until I realize that you came by to give me some attention. Once you come into my room, I will sit on your lap, be held, and let you pet me all day! I can be pretty playful too. I really enjoy chasing laser lights!
I went to an event with Save-a-Pet one day and the volunteer who took me told me I was very calm and even enjoyed wearing the Santa collar they put on me! I don’t really care where we go as long as I’m getting some attention! Make sure you don’t miss me. I am a pretty special cat. You can find me in the W/D room here at Save-a-Pet since I’m on a special diet.
She is about seven years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.

Omelet
I’m called a busy bee: I’m everywhere and nowhere! I love height as this gives me the best view of my current world. If I sense any excitement going on, I’m immediately down on the floor in order to join in. Hey, wait a minute, do you want to play chase? Darn it, where did this cat disappear? Oh did I tell you I’m a playful girl too. I just can’t laze around all day so another feline friend would be great company during the day. I’m a cute little girl, probably with some Abyssinian that has grown up here and my friends tell me that it is about time I find my own family.
She is about four years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.
Peggie Sue
So many years spent living in a small cage and yet my spirit is not broken! Hard to believe that I came in as a cute and playful puppy in 1998 and spent all these years at another shelter. Maybe it is because they kept me in a basement at first, with very little attention from people. I should have found a home in no time, after all everyone loves puppies! Instead, I was very scared for many years but never gave up hope. So finally, here I am, getting to experience what being with people is all about: a nice comfy bed, long walks and of course belly rubs. I can even feel the little puppy coming back out and while I know that most people might just see me as a senior lady with my gray muzzle, I do hope however that someone will notice that little spark in my eyes, waiting to finally be someone’s puppy. I have a whole life to make up for and would love a home with one or two adults that understand the delight of enjoying every moment, even if it is “just” rolling in the grass or falling asleep in front of the TV.
She is about 12 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.

Ama
People around here call me “Ama the Mama” because I was such a good mom to my 6 kittens. Since then, all of my kittens have been adopted, and I’m still here waiting. I’m pretty good with other cats since I tend to just mind my own business. Sometimes I will come up to you for a greeting, but usually I let the people come to me. I am definitely a lap cat, and I’m a little embarrassed to say it, but sometimes I even get so happy that I start to drool! I can’t wait until I find a home where I can sit on your lap for hours. I can be a little shy at first, but once you get to know me I promise you will love me!
She is about three years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, tested negative for Feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.
Cosco
I may look like a beagle, bark like a beagle but I don’t have the short legs or sport the plump body that many have…what can they say, I am just a very handsome guy that unfortunately thought I had it made. I lived with my first family since I was 8 weeks old. They brought me in when they said I was suddenly no longer good with the 8-year old kid. While I don’t really care too much for other dogs, I don’t mind the company of cats at all as I used to live with them. I am somewhat prone to ear infections and don't always like to cooperate when it is time for my ear medicine. Other than that, I am an easy-going fellow that of course loves walks and sniffing everything.

Lucky Oliver
Lucky…you bet! I came in with a head trauma and immediately got all the veterinary care I needed and spent time recuperating in a foster home. My foster mom said that I did great with all her dogs, from small to large, and got along well with her cats too although would sometimes bark at them. I am an extremely active and playful dog and I need a lot of opportunities to run around and exercise my intelligence and she feels that I would do best with an active dog to have fun with. I had a short adoption where my family said I was not good with their other pets and had only bonded to one person. I think I just didn’t get enough exercise. My new family should also be willing to groom me regularly so I always look like my best. After all, I know I look cute!
He is not even two years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.
Albert
“Albert is a SWEETHEART!!” is what one staff member had to say about me. I tend to sleep a lot during the day but if you happen to be around late at night, I will just keep walking around people, purring extremely loudly. Then I might stand up on the chair and tap you, all just so I can tell you a story in kitty language: “ Meow Meow Meow Purr Purr Purr”. I could possibly live with a mellow cat-friendly dog and I definitely get along very well with the other cats around here. So if you are not quite the morning person but love to stay up late, I might just be the perfect companion for you. I am on a special diet so you will need to ask for me by name.
He is about 8 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.
They are ready to graduate from Save-A-Pet and become alumni! Of course, all their other friends at www.saveapetil.org are also looking to leave Save-A-Pet.

Tori
What makes me happy? People, a comfy bed fluffed up with a blanket, walks, belly rubs, treats, playing with some dogs but above all just spending extra long time with people. I was found in a forest preserve and no one ever came looking for me… Hard to believe since I am an easy-going girl that walks well on leash and I also sit nicely for treats although I am told I could shed a couple of lbs. I also have one of these “commercial for toothpaste” smiles with cute little wrinkles on my forehead. Just come and check it out!
She is about 4 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.
Tori, aka Serena, came from Pet Rescue that was recently closed after operators were charged with abuse, stripped of their license and accused by the state of misusing some donations. Save-A-Pet took many of their dogs and cats and all are now waiting for their happy ending. For additional information, please visit www.saveapetil.org
Percy Jackson
A bit of a hoot with people and somewhat of a bully with other cats, that’s me. As soon as I spot someone that can provide some petting, I put on a full show, meowing and rubbing and if they stop, I start making lots of noise again. I was found as a stray and quickly adopted but I guess was a bit of a bully with their other cats so may do best as your only guy. They said I was a playful guy that sometimes loves to rough-house and play-nip and therefore would do better with the sophisticated company of adults – no kids please! So if you a cat with a lot of character, I am your guy!
Come and meet him at the PetsMart in Kildeer (corner of Route 12 and Quentin Road). He is about 3 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.

A humane investigation is what saved me from life on a chain! After the first few years of a lousy life, I wasn’t at first quite sure about this new place, called Save-A-Pet but I have settled in, enjoying my doggy bed and fun times out with some of my friends. I am starting to show signs of puppyness and even interest in what they call toys. I would prefer an adult-only home that would enjoy the company of a dog that is not too active yet enjoys walks and times playing outside.
She is about five years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.
Gwin
People around here can’t get enough of me! When someone stops petting me, I tap them on the arm to let them know, “Hey! I’m still here!” I’m a little stressed out by all the cats around here, so I tend to stay in the kitchen where it’s quieter. If you’re looking for a new cat to bring into your family, consider me. Maybe you are who I’ve been looking for all along.
She is about four years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, tested negative for Feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.

Niko
Imagine being a cat in a field and surrounded by a pack of dogs barking their lungs out…I sure wasn’t afraid and just waited. Great move on my part because this is how I got rescued. I didn’t look very handsome, all dirty with many matts, and runny eyes and nose. My rescuer brought me inside and took me to the vet, where I was found to be FIV positive. I was lucky that a spot was open at Save-A-Pet and so after I got better, I quickly joined my other pals in the FIV room. People quickly all fell in love with me – after all, I am a very sweet guy that loves to roll over for belly rubs and I pretty much purr constantly. Well, things were looking too good because the next thing I knew, I turned out to be diabetic. Not too worry, they take great care of me here. I also absolutely love dogs and if I am on leash at a community event, I will be the first one to meet any cat-friendly dog, all the way to big bloodhounds!
He is about 6 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots and rabies, tested negative for feline leukemia, and microchipped. He is a healthy FIV positive big guy!
Wishbone, aka Buddy
I originally came in as a stray rescued from a kill-shelter with a bad case of heartworm. I quickly went on to find a home where they renamed me Buddy. They said I was well-behaved when left alone and would always cheerfully greet them after work. They taught me basic obedience and loving socialization but also mentioned that I seemed to have had an early puppy-hood that instilled certain fears in me. They therefore felt it was best to bring me back as they were planning on having kids. I have since then been waiting patiently for someone to give me another chance. I was also, like my pal Niko, diagnosed with diabetes and am now on insulin. I am not high maintenance in the activity department but love regular walks throughout the day.
He is about 8 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped. He needs daily insulin shots (which are easy to give), which he is good-natured about it…however doesn’t always like going to the vet. He is looking for an adoptive or permanent foster home.
We always have other pets with special needs so if they may not be a good match, just make sure to ask us when you come to visit and don’t forget to check all their other friends at www.saveapetil.org

Blu Monday
From an out-of-state “breeder” to a local pet store, I was quickly sold for an exorbitant sum of money as a puppy. After all I was quite a cute fluffy little ball although I’m told I am still a very handsome with my blue eyes. Well barely a few months later and here I am, without a family. True to my breed (Siberian Husky), I have tons of energy and am always ready to run and even play fetch. I do, however, take breaks to snuggle up with people. I would prefer older kids as I am still jumpy and can get mouthy. I would even love to have another canine playmate – I used to live with a min-pin – to romp around in a fenced-in yard.
He is about 10 months old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.

After having spent two years in a home, my family got a dog and when we couldn’t get along, I was the one that was given up. I am good with kids and I get along great with cats. I lived with a couple of them, and even here at the shelter I can often be found right in the middle of other cats. I love to cuddle and sleep in bed with people. I am very playful, though at times I may be a little bit shy with new people (but quickly adjust!) I am an active cat and always ready to play. Maybe my new home will have a feline friend that I can have fun with.
He is about 4 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.

Tiger Lilly
If you were to ask me what my two favorite things were, I would tell you: people and belly rubs. Before coming to Save-A-Pet, I was living outside with two other canine friends so at least we had each other. Since coming here, I found out that I am going to be a mom. This is all so exciting but scary too, and while they take great care of me here, they would really like to find me a foster home. That’s a “temporary” family that would allow me to raise my babies in their own home – imagine that. I promise plenty of kisses and tail wags during my stay.
She is about two years old and is due soon. So if you can help or would like additional information, please don’t wait and call 847-740-7788, ext. 101 or emailfosterinfo@saveapetil.org
Chance and Friday
Our world is just completely upside down. Hard to understand everything that just happened these last few weeks but what we know is that we lost our home when our guardian suddenly passed away. My brother and I used to live a quiet life with a small dog, with a lap to enjoy the evening and a kitty bed for naps during the day. We do have some medical needs, after all we are senior cats, a pill a day for our heart and some sub-q fluids twice a week. While we would love to have a last name again, we know that unfortunately this might not be possible so we would also just be happy being in a foster home. Please take us home, we do not want to stay much longer here, not that they are not nice but we are both so very stressed.
They are about 12 years old, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.

Somerset
Am I not totally cute and adorable? I am a little min-pin girl that was found as a very skinny girl (I am probably the lightest one of all residents…and that includes cats!). It was quickly discovered that I am diabetic although they are hoping that once I put on weight, I may no longer be. I am not too keen of other dogs but absolutely love people. I have to say that I got them quite wrapped up around my little paw: they carry me around, give me treats…you get the picture.
She is about 2 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.
Zita
I came back to Save-A-Pet because the cat in my past home was bullying me and I just got very stressed. After all, when you constantly have to watch your back, you can never really relax, can you? I am rather submissive with other cats and so might even be happier as an only cat. My prior family describes me as a very playful, affectionate and sweet lady and I even give your hand little kisses when you are petting me.
She is on a special diet to avoid urinary tract infections. She is about 3 years old. She is spayed, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, tested negative for Feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.

Come on, won’t you sit down? I have many purrs to tell you and the best spot to do so is always if I have a lap. Don’t be afraid to interrupt my nap, I am always so elated if I can get some conversation going with people. So what is a guy like me doing here? Without going into many details, and who wants to dwell on the past anyway, I lost my guardian when she had to move into a nursing home. I am not too keen on other cats and would definitely prefer to be an only-cat. With my sweet and affectionate personality, I’m said to be quite an addictive fellow so come and meet me, I’ll take your lap over and you won’t have no choice but to take me home.
He is about 7 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.
Ottis & Dollie
We lost our home because of financial reasons. My sister and I are a medium-sized, active and playful duo. I am quite an outgoing guy and can even get quite vocal when I want attention. My sister can be a bit shy when she first meets someone new but it doesn’t take her long to become a Velcro dog. We both have had some training (see how nicely we sit for a treat) and would love to become the latest additions to a fun and active family, maybe with older kids. We are quite affectionate and are guaranteed to make you laugh and to give you plenty of kisses.
They are about two years old respectively. They are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.

Chico Nacho aka Buddy
I’m told I am a cute little red-head guy, all compact at just about 40lbs but with plenty of energy for long walks or even just running in one of the play yards. While I seem to get along with some dogs, I would probably prefer to be your only baby. I am a playful guy that can be quite a talker at times, especially if I am in my kennel. I even speak, while sitting, just in the hope of getting the treat faster!
He is about 5 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.
Orange Juice
Head-butt anyone? Anyone? Oh come on, I am all cuddly, snuggly and affectionate with both people and cats. Petting me should have no end… When no one is available to do so, I find a nice comfy spot, preferably one where I can completely stretch out and relax. Of course one of the best spots for my naps is often in one of the cubby holes, with one eye always open, this way I can make sure that I won’t miss on meeting any new possible families. And by the way I used to live with a dog and get along well with cats too.

Paesan
Hello, up there, on top of the cat tree! I’m the big orange tabby guy that tends to be rather independent, not interacting too much with the other cats. I am however an inquisitive guy and if you start talking to me, I completely focus on you, trying to understand what you are saying. People think that I am really funny to watch because I display so many different facial expressions, head tilting left and right, head down, whiskers up, whiskers down. I am told I am a very handsome big guy that will let you pick me up but don’t especially like to be carried around for too long. Come and visit me in the FIV room!
He is about 5 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots and rabies, tested negative for feline leukemia, and microchipped. He is a healthy FIV positive big guy!
Squirrly
After I left here as a puppy, I kept popping up at animal control because I was running loose. Hey, when you don’t get any attention at home, you have to take matters in your own hands and try to find it yourself! While I am as active as a puppy when playing outside, I am a loving, lapdog inside and will lay belly-up for scratches for as long as you’re willing. I was recently diagnosed with renal failure and so my need for a family (did I mention that I am absolutely wonderful with children) is urgent.
Squirrly is looking for a foster or adoptive home as soon as possible, preferably as the only pet or with a family that could offer to keep her separated from their other pet(s) while still providing her with plenty of loving and attention. She is about 8 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.

Life needs to be interesting, doesn't it? If all you do is what is expected, things would be quite boring, don't you think so? I can be extremely sweet and affectionate, putting my little, okay big paw forward to get your attention while at other times more independent and feisty. I am a spunky playful boy that especially loves interactive toys. I also kind of like to take over the cat room at times. Maybe I’m just envious and don’t know the right way to get noticed…and well, when there is nothing going out, I always love to relax by the window, watching the birds.
He is about 5 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on routine shots, tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.
Deuce
First gear is in…I am ready to go: ears floating in the wind and nose to the ground! I am a playful guy that loves, in no particular order, other dogs, belly rubs, walks, food, a comfy doggy bed and of course just having fun. I had a short adoption where I was said to be somewhat nippy but here nobody has ever had had an issue with me. I also got to spend some overnights at one of the volunteers’ homes and was well-behaved and very friendly with her dogs too!
He is about 4 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.

Dewey
Howdy! Welcome to our main cat room, I’m Dewey, the black cat with the white spot above his eye. You won’t be able to miss me. I never hide, too afraid that I might miss on my big “Hasta La Vista Save-A-Pet day” – I just can’t wait for that very special moment where I finally find my own family. My motto is one cat per lap…If someone sits down, I am immediately taking possession of it and will let other cats know that they should not interrupt this snuggling session. I just melt under the attention and might even take a little nap if you let me stay long enough. Needless to say I would be just perfect if you are looking for just one cat that loves spending time with people!
He is about 12 years old. He is neutered, up-to-date on routine shots, tested negative for Feluk and FIV, and microchipped.
Freddie
Adopted 8 years ago, I shared my home with a retiree and enjoyed life as the only dog during all that time. When my guardian had to move into a nursing home, I ended up here, once again. I love my walks, checking things out and sniffing everything…they also told me that I could lose a few lbs but don’t worry, I will still sit, lay down and give paw with no treats! Even though I didn’t live with kids in my last home, I was said to be good with kids ages 2 through 5 when they would come to visit. I did have a short adoption where I was in a home with another dog but ended up coming back because we didn’t really get along. That family had also reported that I spent hours running around the yard with their 7-year old daughter and was just great with her. I still have plenty of love to give, all I need is a chance to belong somewhere again.

Angel Face and Baby Claire
Ooh, I am not quite sure what to say…I have been asked to talk a little bit about my sister, Angel Face, and myself. I am a petite girl with two different color eyes and can be somewhat talkative, I am even told that I have one of the cutest meows around the cat room. Angel Face has a little spot on her nose with deep green eyes and delicate dilute calico coloring. When you first approach, she may cringe a bit but she won’t run away. If you start petting her, she starts relaxing and purrs very softly. If you need a little hint, she especially enjoys neck and ear scratches. I also love petting and just sitting in someone’s lap. We can often be found snuggling up for naps. We are just a very sweet, affectionate and easy-going little duo and are both front-paw declawed.
Angel Face and Baby Claire are respectively about 8 and 5 years old. They are spayed, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, tested negative for Feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.
Mika & Gracie
Someone mentioned they should replace the smiley face with mine! That’s pretty sweet! My “sister”, Mika, and I lost our home because of financial reasons. Our family said we were great with kids of all ages, from birth up. They also said we know sit, down, paw and stay and Mika also knows fetch…actually that is an easy one for her because she can play fetch forever. I enjoy romping around with her, often teasing her but I won’t share her with any other dog. After all, we would be perfect for a family interested in two dogs that get along great as we pretty much grew up together. Of course, at night, we expect more than just one good night kiss on top of our heads…we actually love them any time of the day…or night!
Gracie and Mika are 6 and 5 years old respectively. They are spayed, up-to-date on routine shots incl. rabies, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped..

Okay before we go any further, let me say that this is a stupid name! Actually while in foster, my name was Buster, which aptly suits my playful and energetic personality. I was found tied to a pole and then brought to a rural animal control facility where my days were numbered until I got a ride to Save-A-Pet. My foster home reported that I love playing with other dogs and, just like a little puppy, can sometimes get overly excited and need a kind reminder not to play tug of war with blankets or your sleeve. Therefore, an active home would be best for me, preferably with teenagers. I am told that I am known to lick people’s face and will lay at their feet when I am tired.
He is just about 2 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots (incl. rabies), tested negative for heartworm, on preventative and microchipped.

I’ll serenade anyone and everyone! Okay I admit, I am quite vocal, always ready to share a story or two with cats or people. I am an easy-going guy that enjoys relaxing in someone’s lap, snuggling up and I even sometimes roll on my back – anything to keep the petting going. While in foster, my foster mom reported that I had discovered a secret way to remove ponytail holders from her hair. Food gets me all crazy, I just love wet food (and have that solid body to prove it – watch out Jimmy) – after all I am sure that many of you can relate to that, eating is one of the pleasures of life. I also get along great with my FIV feline buddies…all that I am missing is a last name!

I am always out and about and just a total affection hound. That’s what my guardian had to say about me and that I would always try to do everything to be in someone’s lap. I used to live with a small dog and a cat and enjoyed rough-housing play. I also get along well with all the cats around here and am quite social, not afraid to follow people around, begging for some petting. I do tend to get upper respiratory infections once in a while but other than that, I am just a gentle, loving lap cat. Come meet me, I’ll make sure to be right there to greet you!
He is about 6 years old, neutered, up-to-date on routine shots and rabies, tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and microchipped.

No toys, no treats, no blankies, no grass, no room to run and play…and no love. That was my life as a puppy mill dog but this is now all behind me thanks to Save-A-Pet! I am learning everything in my foster home, after all every day brought so many new things that I just started imitating what her dogs were doing…my foster mom said I’m kind of like a parrot. I am starting to play with toys, cuddling on the couch and even getting along with the cats. Small kids are just too fast moving for me. My foster mom says it would be best if I go to a home that already has another dog…oh and before I forget, I love my neck rubbed!

Dogs and cats, no problem – after all, I used to live with both of them. When my guardian relocated overseas, I came back to Save-A-Pet. I am told I am just pure sweetness and a total riot. Whenever I want petting, I don’t take being ignored as a good excuse enough. I follow people around, and even got caught making faces and trying any trick on the feline cat book to get you to pay attention to me. My purr is loud and my belly is plump and perfect for massages. See everything that you are losing not having me, so don’t waste any more time, let’s meet now!

Bare Bear
I don't know why they call me Bare Bear 'cause I do have fur...beautiful fur actually! I have been in three homes already and I am only three years old! They tell me I am part Golden Retriever and part Chow. This makes perfect sense as I love to fetch and play with toys and I love dogs! I also like to bond to one person and take my job of protecting my person quite seriously. I would really like to live with another dog as I did in my last home. I even have a special trainer who has worked with me and knows what a smart boy I am. If you want a handsome, playful, loving guy and have experience helping dogs overcome some challenges, I am the one for you!

It seems like yesterday when I thought I had landed on a different planet…all this seemed so scary after having lived outside with little human interaction and barely getting enough food to survive. A leash was so scary at first – and I managed to chew through quite a few. After a while, I did realize that meals were served twice a day, without fail. They are so tasty and it feels so good to have a full stomach. Then they have these things called beds and blankets, boy I feel like I am napping on little clouds. Needless to say that this new planet is actually really good. I even go on walks now and one of my friends even makes a bit fun of me because I make what she calls adorable snorting noises when I sniff things around.. I am still shy with new people but am making progress and get along well with other dogs, so maybe another mellow dog could be my pal…as I have heard about yet another planet called home. It sounds scary but I am ready to discover it!

"Get me outta here!" What do you have to do to find your family around here? Can you believe that I came in as a little kitten and all the promotion so far hasn’t helped me. I mean I pretty much come running to greet everyone that walks in the room. I get along well with other cats and my favorite toys are big fluffy mice that I joyfully bat around the main cat room and am always more than willing to share them with other cats too. So that’s one thing that my new family will need to be willing to do is pulling them from under the furniture. I am all that you would want in a cat and even more!

I was never interested in playing survivor outside but somehow no one asked my opinion and that’s where I ended up. Talk about luck when I finally found a door open and walked into someone’s garage, I was just overjoyed – they didn’t really think twice and tried to bring me into their house. Unfortunately their dog didn’t give me a warm welcome, he probably was not too happy about getting competition on his own turf. I’m told I am a very nice cat, just very overwhelmed in my new living quarters. Don’t misunderstand me, this is much better than being outside but I need more petting and attention…and a lot less roommates.

I sure wouldn’t have needed a costume for Halloween as I was just a skeleton of a dog. I wish I could have told them my story when they found me as a pitiful-looking emaciated dog. Now I feel like I have hit the jackpot: regular tasty meals, a nice doggy bed to relax and cool people to take me out for walks and spending time playing with me. Fun has not limit…but I am told that once my family finds me, I will finally have a winning hand! No need to gamble on my love, I guarantee to give you plenty of tail wags every day of the year!

Kidnapped from the streets! Well, that’s how I felt – I wasn’t quite sure what was going on. After all, you have to realize that when you are left outside to fend for yourself, you quickly become wary of people as most of them usually don’t want you around. I am still slightly reserved but do enjoy attention and petting. I am also great with other cats and really am no trouble at all. See how easy I could fit into your home. I’m just a gentle boy looking for a quiet home with a cat or two.

Excellence in having fun could easily be an award I could win. Don’t let this fool you though as I am also of the intellect type. Get a treat out and I will show you sit, down, stay and give paw or my specialty is giving two paws at the time. I keep my dog walkers on their toes too as they have to find new tricks for me to learn. I still get quite excited when we first go out, always trying to pull to get to one of the play-yards but I am getting better every time. Hey, I’m trying to exercise them too, pick up the pace. No time to be glued to the TV all day! I can appear a little bit uninterested in meeting people at first but once I know you come and visit me regularly, I get all excited when I see my friends. Maybe my prior home (who by the way just dumped me) never paid too much attention to me. One of my friends here says I have the cutest ears, largest smile and perfect medium-sized body!

Why would someone just keep a tiny dog like me as a yard dog? Once they couldn’t care for me any longer, Save-A-Pet took me in. While my family said I was good with their 4-year old kid, I have been rather skittish here and would most probably do better in an adult home only. I am not immediately comfortable with strangers and need some time to feel comfortable – hint, hint: a few treats always help. I am an active and playful girl that is unfortunately not visible as I am in one of the back rooms. So if you want to meet me, make sure to ask about me by name!
She is about 9 years old, spayed, up-to-date on routine shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.

Totally comfortable with both dogs and cats, I am a super-sweet and quite talkative girl that immediately gets up to greet visitors to our room. After all, this is common courtesy plus I know this means extra loving care and lots of petting. When my guardian got really sick and had to undergo major surgery followed by rehab for many weeks, I came to Save-a-Pet. I used to live with three large dogs and was known to “use” one of them as a kitty bed – I have to say that this was quite comfy and of course just like an electrical blanket in the winter. Since my arrival here, I have been diagnosed with lymphoma and am now almost completely blind and deaf but this doesn’t make me any less lovable than any other cats. Make sure to stop by and say hello, maybe you’ll decide to turn the hello into a “come home with us!”

Dear Santa,
I can’t believe that my wish already came through: being rescued with 17 other small dogs from a “breeder” that was closing down and was going to resell us as “breeding machines”. I had heard that this wasn’t supposed to be what life was all about but when all you’ve ever known is sitting in a cage 24/7, you can only wish for something better! Discovering home life with my foster mom is great! She says that I am absolutely precious, hence this becoming my “official” name! I am also discovering what toys are and am really warming up and jumping around quite a bit! Hard to believe it all: nice doggy bed, good food, warm temperature…all I can do to show her my gratitude is to give her a lot of little kisses. I am totally fascinated with the television and…looking at myself in the mirror. She says I am a really cute girl and that I am absolutely perfect. Just look at the picture she took of me, wearing my little pink coat!

The description in the auction catalog read: “#41: Missing right front leg. Mother bit her leg off at birth, had to have it amputated. Bred once, whelped 3 puppies. Will still breed with support to the right front. Whelps with no assistance. Good mom.”
This little girl is a pure-bred Brussels Griffon, approximately 2 1/2 years old. She is up-to-date on routine shots, heartworm negative and on preventative and microchipped.

Dear Santa,
I hope I am not too old to write to you and ask you for my special wish this holiday season…I spent many years in a home with other cats and when my guardian passed away, I was brought here. I have adjusted overall rather well living with over 150 cats. Competition to find a new family is a different story when you are over 10 years old. I love attention and often follow people around to get some petting or even to be able to lounge for a little while in their lap or on their shoulder. When they find out my age, they quickly move on and start looking at other cats. That’s really tough on my little heart. One of my friends says that I am an extremely sweet and affectionate cat, so gentle and easy-going that I would probably do well with kids too. I still have as much love to give, maybe even more now than in my younger days. I really miss having my own family and wouldn’t mind sharing the loving with other felines…Please Santa, can you find me a new family?
