As 2016 marks the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the event will recognize local World War II veterans. Representatives from the American Legion Post #145, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4737 and Jewish War Veterans #29 will be in attendance. Special guest speakers include Illinois Senator Julie Morrison and Mayor Nancy Rotering. The Highland Park High School Brass Quintet will perform. The VFW Post #4737 has selected Mr. Alfred “Al” Zelent to be this year’s “Hero Among Us” honoree; below is his profile.

The Village of Deerfield and the American Legion Deerfield Post 738 invites everyone to participate in the Give Where You Live – Deerfield service campaign to make a difference in the lives of area veterans. Spearheaded by Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal, Give Where You Live – Deerfield is collecting donations now through Veterans Day, November 11, when volunteers will come together to make no-sew fleece blankets, assemble care packages and write letters of thanks and encouragement to veteran.

Antioch’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony

The assembly will feature the Antioch Community High School band and choir and will honor veterans from all of the branches of the United States Military. Students and staff will also recognize family and community members by s ubmitting photographs to a slideshow that will then be played at the assembly. Veterans, current service personnel, and their families are welcome to attend this event.
