Her debut album Out of the Blue went triple platinum and her second album Electric Youth went double platinum, both spawning a flurry of hits. After selling more than 16 million albums, the multi-talented performer went on to star on Broadway and tour internationally, playing Éponine in Les Misérables and Sandy in Grease.

Grammy® award winner Jody Watley set the tone in dance music throughout the ’80s and is recognized as one of the most prominent visionaries of her era. She was a mainstay on MTV with her trendsetting videos, street-chic fashion and sultry dance moves. Her classic 1989 cut “Friends” carved the template for both R&B/hop-hop and pop/hip-hop. Before embarking on a solo career, the singer-songwriter was a member of the successful R&B group Shalamar (“A Night to Remember,” “The Second Time Around”). The Chicago native ranks 21st on Billboard magazine’s list of top dance club artists of all time and her influence remains a key touchstone in popular music.
